KOTA KINABALU: Two more cases of Covid-19 have been reported in Sabah involving students from the Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS).
The director of the State Department of Health, Dr. Christina Rundi, said both cases were recorded yesterday, bringing the cumulative total of Covid-19 cases in Sabah to 330.
“The two cases were detected from Covid-19 tests performed on students based on the standard operating procedure for Sabah Student Movement Management managed by UMS,” it said in a statement today.
She said both students had been admitted to the hospital for treatment.
“Control and prevention activities at UMS are still ongoing and the cause of the infection is under investigation,” he added.
So far, he said, three university students have tested positive for the virus.
“These students are among the thousands of university students who are allowed to return to their home cities through the initiative that involves the massive movement of students from red zones to green and yellow zones.”
As of yesterday, he added, all travelers entering the state, including students from the peninsula, must undergo a 14-day quarantine at published locations.
“This is due to the increase in new cases in Sabah involving Sabahans who have just returned from abroad and their failure to comply with quarantine orders at home,” he said.
On May 11, Sabah recorded a sharp increase in Covid-19 cases with 10 new cases, two of which were university students returning from peninsular Malaysia.
