PUTRAJAYA: The Department of Immigration has updated its list of procedures for Malaysians to enter and leave the country during the Movement Control Order (MCO).

According to the list, Malaysian diplomats and their dependents, students leaving to continue their studies and those who have been offered a place to study abroad do not need to apply to the Immigration Department.

Students going abroad to sit for exams and Malaysians with a long-term pass from another country, such as permanent residents, also do not need to apply.

Employees of oil and shipping companies who must board the ship abroad are also exempt. “They only need to present supporting documents to immigration officials when they want to leave the country,” the department said in a statement yesterday.

He also listed five categories for which department approval is required before leaving Malaysia, namely Malaysians returning to the country during the MCO period, those who have received job offers and are traveling abroad for meetings, seminars. , exhibitions and businesses, parents who plan to travel accompany their children abroad for their studies and those who need to travel in an emergency.

“Malaysians are still unable to travel abroad for vacations and casual visits to relatives living abroad,” the department said, reiterating that it did not prohibit Malaysians from returning to the country, adding that they did not need permission to return.

“However, returnees are not allowed to leave the country again without permission, even if they are holders of long-term passes from another country,” he said.

Malaysians traveling from countries prohibited here, including those with long-term passes and those who left for affected countries during the MCO are also allowed entry.

As of September 7, Malaysia has banned citizens of 23 countries who are long-term pass holders from entering the country.
