PETALING JAYA: The Immigration Department detained 27 foreigners in a raid on an entertainment outlet in Jalan Kuchai Lama with more than 100 people on Friday (November 6).

“During the raid, several people tried to flee but were thwarted by agents who had already surrounded the area. A total of 115 people were searched inside, ”said the Director General of Immigration, Datuk Khairul Dzaimee Daud, in a statement on Saturday (November 7).

He said that 80 of the people inspected were locals who did not adhere to the Covid-19 SOPs, adding that officers discovered that customers were using “sticky tokens” to win the favor of their favorite guest relations officers (GRO ).

Khairul said that the price of these sticky tokens would range from RM100 to RM1,000.

“These are used as tips for their favorites and the outlet has been identified as using this system as an attraction. The checks showed that many of the GROs were using social visiting passes and had been in the country since March. One showed a spouse card but was still working as a GRO, ”he said.

Checks at the store showed that he did not have an entertainment store license.

The department also arrested two locals, including a woman they called the “mummy,” who was in charge of the GROs.

“Several intoxicated clients did not cooperate and tried to leave before the investigations were concluded. They and the rest of the clients were turned over to the police and we understand that the police issued 29 compounds, ”said Khairul.

He added that those detained by the department were taken to the Putrajaya district medical center for Covid-19 tests and said they will be taken to the Putrajaya headquarters for documentation once they test negative.
