KUALA LUMPUR (Bernama): The Immigration Department has denied a report from a local newspaper titled “200,000 warga asing bolos” (200,000 foreigners escaped), claiming that it is false and without foundation.

Its CEO, Datuk Khairul Dzaimee Daud, said the department took the issue seriously, as the report gave the wrong impression of efforts by law enforcement agencies to curb illegal immigrant unions.

He said that the Department of Immigration had always endeavored to thwart such activities, including conducting intelligence work, enforcement operations and sharing information with other agencies.

“From January 1 to November 18 of this year, a total of 34,529 illegal immigrants were apprehended out of 90,292 people controlled through 6,300 enforcement operations conducted across the country,” it said in a statement Thursday (December 19). November).

Furthermore, it said that a total of 376 employers had been detained during the same period.

“In this regard, the Immigration Department is working closely with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission in an effort to paralyze unions involving illegal immigrant agents as well as immigration officers,” he said. – Bernama
