PUTRAJAYA: The Immigration Department has confirmed the arrests of 25 of its officers by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) for their alleged involvement in the abuse of the use of the department’s entry and exit stamp.
Its CEO, Datuk Khairul Dzaimee Daud (Photo) said the arrests were the result of cooperation between the department and the MACC, particularly in sharing information obtained after public complaints.
“The department will not compromise with staff who abuse their power and position for personal gain. Those involved must be prepared to face legal action and face imprisonment or dismissal, if found guilty, ”he said on Tuesday (November 17).
Khairul said the arrests would not affect the daily operations of Immigration and its service to the people.
“We will continue to cooperate with the MACC to complete its investigation of the case,” he said.
Earlier Tuesday, the MACC had brought 44 people, including 25 immigration officers, to court for pretrial detention orders to assist in the investigation.
The arrests were made in Putrajaya, Johor Baru, Shah Alam, Kuching and Kota Kinabalu Magistrate Courts.
On November 16, the MACC arrested 46 people in a special operation.
It is alleged that a union, which includes immigration personnel, would stamp the travel documents of foreign workers or illegal immigrants who had not passed through immigration controls.
