KOTA KINABALU: Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin wants the construction of the Pan Borneo Highway in Sabah to get back on track soon to accelerate its completion.
The chief deputy minister said it was absurd that the Sabah section was experiencing less progress compared to Sarawak when the megaproject was launched in both states around the same time.
“Sarawak has already achieved 50% completion, but Sabah only 18-20%.
“It doesn’t make sense why Sarawak can (make such progress) and Sabah can’t.
“I will look into the details of this to make sure the project here moves just as quickly and make sure the people of Sabah enjoy good road connections as in other states,” said Bung Moktar, who is the Minister of Public Works. of the state, after registering his first day at the ministry office yesterday.
Bung Moktar said that road infrastructure and drinking water supply, which were still a problem in Sabah, would be its main target.
“Over the years, I have received information on these issues and the provision of treated water throughout Sabah and the improvement of existing roads is one of the (promises of) the manifesto of Gabungan Rakyat Sabah.
“Hopefully in these five years (during my tenure) we can address that problem in districts facing water supply problems,” he said, adding that the government would also consider other programs based on priorities.
Bung Moktar also said that the ministry would focus on restructuring existing programs based on allocation under the 12th Malaysia Plan.
Regarding the name change of the ministry, which was previously known as the Ministry of Infrastructure Development, he said that was what the chief minister, Datuk Hajiji Mohd Noor, had announced.
Meanwhile, Hajiji began his official duties from his office in the Chief Minister’s Department (JKM), Sabah State Administration Center, in the morning.
Hajiji, who was wearing a light brown jacket, scanned his fingers on the electronic watch and smiled at the reporters present before entering his office and having a discussion with the JKM officers.
He was scheduled to attend several meetings, including with the Chief Deputy Minister of Sabah and the State Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries, Datuk, Dr. Jeffrey Kitingan.
Hajiji, 65, was sworn in as Sabah’s 16th Chief Minister to Yang di-Pertua Negeri Tun Juhar Mahiruddin on Tuesday.
