Khairy Jamaluddin says that there are different points of view in Umno at the moment, but that he will abide by the decision of the Supreme Council.

KUALA LUMPUR: Khairy Jamaluddin says he will abide by any decision made by the Supreme Council of Umno on the party’s position in the current Perikatan Nasional government, including resigning all cabinet posts.

The science, technology and innovation minister said he will resign from the cabinet if ordered.

“If the Supreme Council decides and instructs the members of Umno to withdraw (from the cabinet), then as a member of Umno I am bound by that decision,” the former head of the Umno Youth told a press conference today.

The party’s highest decision-making body will meet tomorrow to discuss its cooperation with the PPBM in the PN government.

Sources had previously revealed that Umno President Ahmad Zahid Hamidi told all party MPs to resign from their positions in government and government-linked companies before the end of the month.

He allegedly made the announcement at a meeting with all the leaders of the Umno division at the Putra World Trade Center today, so that the next general election (GE15) will be held as soon as possible.

“There are different opinions in Umno at the moment, as with any other party, but we are guided by the decision of the Supreme Council.

“At the end of the day, we are a political party and we have to have some form of discipline,” Khairy said.

He added that he supported the Supreme Council’s decision not to work with DAP and PKR, while any future cooperation with PPBM has yet to be discussed within the party.

Commenting on the removal of Annuar Musa as Barisan Nasional’s general secretary earlier today, Khairy said the move was at the sole discretion of the coalition chairman, Zahid.

“Of course it was his right to change his secretary general. Whether it was fair or not is a political question that will be answered in the coming days, “he said.
