KUALA LUMPUR: Police Inspector General Tan Sri Abdul Hamid Bador visited former Prime Minister Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi (pix) today to inform you about the status of the investigation into the false news of the latter’s death, which went viral about three months ago.

Abdul Hamid spent about an hour with Abdullah and his wife, Tun Jeanne Abdullah at their residence here.

When meeting Bernama after the meeting, Abdul Hamid said that he had taken on the responsibility of updating the statesman in person.

He said that two people were called, including the author of the article, to record their statements about the spread of the news.

“The police have investigated the matter and, from the investigation, we found that there was no bad intention about what was written … it was a lack of communication, an oversight. We act by calling the author of the article, and there is nothing (more to investigate), no case ”, he said.

He said the investigation also found that another individual spread the news because he thought it was genuine and had no intention of defaming or embarrassing anyone.

Abdul Hamid also urged the public not to spread any news that is not authentic.

On August 10, Abdullah’s special officer, Datuk Jefridin Atan, filed a police report at the Putrajaya District Police Headquarters after false news about the former’s death was spread twice within a week.

Meanwhile, Jeanne said her husband, who will turn 81 on November 26, is in good health.

“Tun (Abdullah) always walks around the garden of the house, it’s fine,” he said. -Called
