KUALA LUMPUR: Inspector General of Police (IGP) Abdul Hamid Bador visited former Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi today to brief Abdullah on the status of investigations into a fake social media account about the latter’s death ago about three months.
Abdul Hamid spent about an hour with Abdullah and his wife, Jeanne Abdullah, at their residence here.
Jeanne said her husband, who will turn 81 on November 26, is in good health. “Tun (Abdullah) always walks around the garden of the house, it’s fine,” he said.
Abdul Hamid told Bernama that he had taken on the responsibility of bringing Abdullah up to date on the investigation.
He said that the author of the article and another person who shared the article had been interviewed.
“We discovered that there were no bad intentions about what had been written … it was a lack of communication, an oversight. We act by calling the author of the article, and there is nothing (more to investigate), no case ”, he said.
The other person who spread the news thought it was genuine and was not intended to defame or embarrass anyone, Abdul Hamid said. He urged the public not to release any report that was not authentic.
Abdullah’s special officer, Jefridin Atan, released a report in August after posts appeared on social media twice about Abdullah’s death in the span of a week.
