PETALING JAYA: Who will Umno work with in the 15th general election (GE15) if the party’s Supreme Council decides not to cooperate with PPBM at its meeting tonight?
Raising the question, Umno Vice President Hishammuddin Hussein said that it is another issue on which the party must decide whether to separate from Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin’s party.
Like the Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, Khairy Jamaluddin, Hishammuddin said that he too is willing to resign if his party directs him to do so, but maintained that Umno must have a clear direction and objective to chart the future. of the party.
Earlier, Khairy said that he would resign from the cabinet if ordered to do so by the Umno Supreme Council, as he was bound by the party’s decision.
“If the party decides not to continue its association with PPBM, then the party has to decide who Umno will work with in GE15. Is it DAP? Will it be PKR? Or will we do it alone? Hishammuddin said today in a statement.
“Umno’s political cooperation must be done carefully because the elections are not tomorrow. You should not do this responsibly and wisely. You cannot make considerations based on emotions and short-term effects.
“At GE14, we only won 79 of the 133 seats we won at GE13. This means that we lost 54 seats. We must learn from this experience. “
Hishammuddin added that Umno had been given the opportunity to demonstrate his ability to lead people, with several leaders appointed in key ministries, such as health, defense, as well as science, technology and innovation.
He said the party should be engaged in its efforts to serve the people to the best of its ability, adding that Malaysians are fed up with politicians fighting endlessly for power.
Sources had previously revealed that Umno President Ahmad Zahid Hamidi told all party MPs to resign from their positions in government and in government-linked companies (GLC) before the end of the month.
