Syed Saddiq says the new party will be made up of civil society leaders, technocrats, professionals, and businessmen, among others.

PETALING JAYA: Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman has not taken offense that Dr. Mahathir Mohamad undermines the new youth-focused party of the former PPBM Youth Chief, saying he will take criticism with an open heart.

He also thanked Mahathir for his comments, while reiterating that the match will be for all Malaysians and will be run by young people.

“Most of the leaders will be technocrats, professionals, entrepreneurs, modern farmers, civil society leaders and others.

“We may be young, but we love Malaysia,” he said today in a Facebook post.

This comes after Mahathir today downplayed Syed Saddiq’s chances of success in a general election with his new party, saying it was insufficient to just have the support of young voters.

While noting that young people make up an important part of the electorate in Malaysia, the former prime minister said it will be difficult for Syed Saddiq’s party to succeed simply by appealing to young people.

However, Mahathir maintained that he had a good relationship with the former Minister of Youth and Sports and said there was no problem in working with him if his goal was also to fight corruption.
