PETALING JAYA: The Minister of Federal Territories, Annuar Musa, reaffirmed his decision to declare the federal territories as “free trade areas” as of November 15, saying that he will assume full responsibility for the program.
Annuar said he had received several memos from MPs and statements from associations protesting the measure, but said now was not the time to think negatively.
“We shouldn’t be greedy just thinking about ourselves, we need to think about people.
“I take note of your concerns about congestion, health and regulations, but I want to say strongly that I will not review my decision. This program will continue as planned.
“I am committed to helping the many people who are fighting across federal territories, and I want to make it easier for them to find income in such drastic times,” he said today at a news conference.
He said that a “free trade zone” did not mean setting aside standard operating rules and procedures, and stressed that all relevant authorities would be instructed to take action against street vendors who litter or cause traffic congestion and any disruption in traffic. residential areas.
Annuar said this was only a temporary measure to allow people who had lost their jobs due to the pandemic to earn an honest living.
He added that Putrajaya was in the middle of filling out the forms to be filled out online and that three ministry officials had been appointed to help him with the program on a daily basis.
For those who do not have the means to open their own positions, Annuar said the ministry was currently working alongside other agencies and would do everything possible to help them.
On Tuesday, Annuar announced that all residents of Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya and Labuan would be able to conduct business anywhere within the three federal territories from November 15 to April 15.
He said they would be allowed to sell anything, adding, however, that this policy was only available to Malaysians.
Traders will need to contact the relevant local authorities and provide information on their plans and where they will conduct business, and must follow written guidelines to be posted soon.
