Warisan’s Aliasgar Basri (left) will face his uncle, Hajiji Noor, at the Sulaman State Headquarters.

KOTA KINABALU: Warisan’s Aliasgar Basri says he respects his uncle Hajiji Noor, the head of Sabah PPBM he will compete against for the Sulaman state seat, but wants to beat him anyway.

Aliasgar said that although they are related, “things are different in politics.”

He said he may be able to beat the high-ranking politician, and he hopes that what happened in Kota Belud’s parliamentary seat in GE14, when Munirah Majilis defeated his uncle, Salleh Said Keruak, will happen in Sulaman.

Aliasgar will face Hajiji, the incumbent, and Rekan Hussein of Parti Cinta Sabah (PCS) in the September 26 elections.

Speaking to reporters after presenting his nomination papers at Dewan Seri Sulaman this morning, Aliasgar said he is confident of getting it right.

He said that the announcement by PPBM Chairman Muhyiddin Yassin that he will nominate Hajiji as prime minister if Gabungan Rakyat Sabah wins the elections will not affect his chances of victory.

“They can nominate anyone, even I can offer myself as a candidate for prime minister. But for us at Warisan Plus, we only have Shafie Apdal as our CM candidate, ”he said.

In the last general election, Hajiji won the seat with a majority of 7,774 votes, defeating candidates from Warisan and Parti Harapan Rakyat Sabah (PHRS).
