Kepong MP suspended for 5 days for ‘stupid ruling’ comment
Vijay47: On this regrettable incident, I would support Dewan Rakyat’s spokesperson, Azhar Azizan Harun, in the marching orders he issued.
After all, like it or not, in Parliament the speaker is the class monitor, lord of all polling, and Kepong MP Lim Lip Eng had no choice but to comply with the speaker’s directives, for unfair they may seem.
This is where Lim would have been guilty: his refusal to leave the Dewan; that would have been outright insubordination.
That said, let’s consider the main offense: Lim’s comment on Vice President Azalina Othman Said’s decision that, despite her unacceptable language, Bintulu MP Tiong King Sing had made amends by choosing one of the two options that had him awarded to Tiong.
As much as he must have been tempted to do so, Lim didn’t describe Azalina as stupid, a label that some of us may have happily agreed with. He just said the decision was stupid.
How do you say that something stupid is stupid, stupid? Reviewing Azalina’s brilliant approach, she had asked Tiong to retract her statement or clarify it. He responded defiantly by saying that he would not withdraw his statement.
Is it acceptable to attribute your comment to the “voice of the avant-garde” miraculously your observation of the “Director General (DG) of Health, Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah, too scared to die”? If so, then Tiong could have said anything, even that yesterday was Wednesday, and still broke free.
This is where you go wrong, Azhar, for not being able to distinguish between a stupid person and a stupid ruler. The fact that a vice president rendered a ruling does not automatically imbue him with the wisdom of which Solomon would have been proud.
I’m not saying sending Lim was stupid, far from it. I simply maintain that her sentence on him was “deficient in intelligence.”
OrangeViper2887: I watched the session of Parliament online. The vice president and speaker appeared angry and excited as they faced a reasonable comment in the august House.
Jelutong MP RSN Rayer from DAP raised a valid protest at the attack on DG Health by MP from Bintulu. He was kicked out by an angry Azalina. A day later, Lim made a “stupid decision” and was expelled by the speaker.
But the bully comment from the pro-Perikatan Nasional (PN) MP from Bintulu went unnoticed by both the speaker and the vice president. What nonsense is this?
The entire political machinery of the NP government has failed and it is time for Parliament to eliminate them. Reestablish the government of Pakatan Harapan voted by the rakyat.

Lipdah: @ GoldenFish9805, what nonsense. There is nothing wrong with saying that it is a “stupid sentence.” Calling someone stupid is different. But then you don’t know the difference.
Doc: I think the reason DAP MPs defend Noor Hisham in Parliament is because of professional courtesy.
The DAP parliamentarians are all highly educated professionals, unlike the PN politicians who are mostly ‘primary school’ (primary school), ‘cabin school’ educated (religious school) or “buy doctorate online” type.
I suppose that DAP sees the CEO as someone who shares the same professional caliber, educated and expert in his field, hence the need to defend his integrity.
Rod of Justice 2020: Why is the word stupid so sensitive? A five-day suspension is certainly too long. This is victimizing dissent.
The best medicine to cure this disease of the unjust is to reduce the salary of all PN deputies by 20 percent and all their benefits by 50 percent. It is not necessary to deduce from Harapan and other deputies; because most of them are already quite thin, with their belt already tightened a few inches.
The money saved can be used to feed those who are unemployed or have lost their jobs.
The Determiner: Lim, can’t you use other words? You are probably educated enough to think in other ways. So instead of ‘stupid’ use ‘lacks intelligence’.
This kind of nonsense will alienate some voters.
Hang Babeuf: You can modify “stupid” to read as “irrational” or “ill-conceived”. An acceptable amendment?
In parliamentary language, you cannot call someone a “liar”. But suggesting that they or their rules or words may be stupid doesn’t seem like such a terrible offense.
Ace: As they always say, “the truth hurts.” And was this action due to the fact that this truth (i.e. acting stupid) hurts the speaker and the vice president a lot?
Silas Jugdip: If an offense is taken with the word “stupid”, I wonder why the same punishment was not given to those who insulted Noor Hisham.
