KINABATANGAN: A plantation worker was beaten to death by his housemate, because the other man was angry with him for wasting water at his home in Sukau here yesterday.
In the incident, around 5.30pm, Lito Salibat, in his 30s, died of serious injuries to the abdomen after being stung with a parang.
The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
“Preliminary investigations showed that the victim was said to often waste water even though the plantation’s living area suffers from frequent water supply problems,” said Kinabatangan District Police Chief Dzulbaharin Ismail when he was contacted today.
“Neighbors found out about the incident after the victim ran out of the house covered in blood.
“Witnesses also saw the suspect running out of the house, but no one dared to stop him while he was holding a parang.”

He added that so far no arrests have been made and that efforts are underway to track down the suspect with the help of the K9 unit from the Lahad Datu district police headquarters.
