Honda Malaysia has announced that sales of the City RS e: HEV have officially started. The hybrid was launched alongside the gasoline variants when the fifth-generation City made its local debut in October last year and was scheduled to go on sale in January. However, its introduction to the market was delayed, and it wasn’t until yesterday that its arrival was hinted at today, when the company debuted its Honda Connect vehicle telematics system.

First, the price, which the company said last year would be announced when the car goes on sale. The top-end City RS e: HEV is priced at RM 105,950, on the road without insurance, but with the exemption from sales tax that is in effect until June 30.

This makes the Road Sailing variant more expensive than the high-spec gasoline version, the V, which goes for RM 86,561. The other variants of the four-model City range available locally consist of the E and S petrol versions, priced at RM 81,664 Y RM 74,191 respectively.

A summary of what can be found in the RS. The variant features an exclusive styling package consisting of a gloss black front grille with honeycomb mesh, carbon-patterned trim on the front edge and rear diffuser, sporty front fog lamp livery, as well as such as mirror covers and a high-gloss black finished ducktail spoiler. It’s also the only City that rides on dual-tone 16-inch alloy wheels (185/55 tires) and comes with rear disc brakes.

Standard equipment includes automatic LED headlights, LED daytime running lights and fog lamps, as well as LED taillights. Also ignition, keyless entry with push start, single-zone automatic air conditioning, rear air conditioning vents, audio buttons in the direction, and an 8.0-inch touchscreen head unit with Apple CarPlay (wired) and Android Auto connectivity with eight speaker audio system.

Exclusive to the RS is a 7.0-inch digital meter panel with hybrid-specific displays, part-leather and “Ultrasuede” seats, red stitching (steering wheel, gearshift area, center tunnel and dash), a selector paddle of deceleration for i-MMD and aluminum sports pedals. The RS is also the only variant to feature a black headlining and an automatic brake hold function.

The RS is powered by an Intelligent Multi-Mode Powertrain (i-MMD), which replaces the previous generation i-DCD. The system consists of a 1.5-liter Atkinson cycle i-VTEC DOHC i-VTEC four-cylinder engine with 98 hp and 127 Nm, which works in conjunction with two engines. The engine works primarily as a generator with the help of an integrated electric motor, which also acts as a starter.

A second larger engine, producing 108 PS & 253 Nm, sends momentum to the wheels. However, the engine can provide direct drive at high speeds as it is more efficient than the engine in that situation. Performance figures include a 0-100 km / h time of 9.9 seconds and a top speed of 173 km / h, and fuel consumption is estimated at 3.77 liters per 100 km, or 26.5 km. / l.

In terms of safety, the RS is equipped with six airbags, VSA, hill start assist, emergency stop signal and the automaker’s LaneWatch left-side camera. It is also the only City variant to come with Honda Sensing, making its debut in the Honda segment in Malaysia.

Full suite of driver assistance and active safety kit includes Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), Collision Mitigation Braking System (Autonomous Emergency Braking or AEB), Forward Collision Warning (FCW), Stay Assist System Lane Departure Mitigation (LKAS), Road Departure Mitigation (RDM), Lane Departure Warning (LDW) and Automatic High Beam (AHB).

Although the low speed tracking function (LSF) has been omitted, the sensor suite in the city has a wider view camera to better recognize road limits, and the system now comes with pedestrian detection capability and cyclists.

The RS is also the first Honda model to feature Honda Connect locally. The vehicle’s telematics system offers users access to a variety of safety, security, and convenience features through a dedicated smartphone app, which is available for Android and iOS devices. This allows owners to stay connected to their cars anywhere, anytime.

There are three exterior colors available for the City RS e: HEV, and they are Modern Steel Metallic, Passion Red Pearl and Platinum White Pearl. The car comes with a five-year unlimited mileage warranty with five times free labor service, while the hybrid’s lithium-ion battery comes with a separate eight-year unlimited mileage warranty.
