GEORGE TOWN: Financial aid and donations are reaching the family of security guard Ganesh Sounderajah, including famous preacher Ebit Lew, who is helping them secure a rented three-bedroom home.

Lew has also bought them new appliances like a refrigerator, television, rice cooker, and other household items.

He drove from Johor Baru on Christmas morning and is expected to transfer the family to the rented house.

The preacher also volunteered to pay a month’s rent if Ganesh succeeds in obtaining a popular housing project (PPR) unit.

“Ganesh and his wife were very grateful for the help and very emotional and crying,” Lew said in his Facebook post on December 25.

He said he slept well and ate well and couldn’t accept the fact that there were people living in a car.

Ganesh, 33, and his wife Parameswari, 32, and their three children, ages eight months to six, lost their home in a fire in April and have been living in Proton Saga since they couldn’t afford a house.

Ganesh, when contacted, thanked the media for highlighting his plight. He said that he had even received calls from abroad from people asking how they could help.

“I told you for now that all I wanted was a house where I could move in.
