KUCHING: Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) has called on all parties to respect Yang di-Pertuan Agong’s advice to put the interests of the people and the nation first.

Whip GPS parliamentary chief Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof (Photo) said the King’s decree underscored the need for politicians to give priority to the people at all times, especially now in the face of the Covid-19 pandemic.

“We hope everyone heeds the King’s advice, which prioritizes the rakyat and the nation, as well as recognizing that the current government has managed the pandemic effectively.

“The King also highlighted the importance of the 2021 Budget, which will be presented in the next parliamentary session, to address Covid-19,” he said in a statement on Tuesday (October 27).

Fadillah also said that GPS welcomed the royal decree that there was no need to proclaim an emergency in the country at this time.

“We thank the king and the Malaysian rulers for their wisdom in handling the political situation. GPS will abide by the king’s advice to politicians to stop all forms of politicking that could endanger the political stability of the nation.

“This is in line with the GPS position that is consistent in calling for an end to politicking so that we can focus on dealing with Covid-19 and economic recovery,” he said.

GPS, the ruling state coalition in Sarawak, is aligned with the Perikatan Nasional administration.
