Recently, it was speculated that a local nurse had died a week after receiving the Covid-19 vaccine.
Since then, the Ministry of Health (MoH) has confirmed that the death of the Penang Hospital nurse was caused by a heart attack, not the vaccine.
According to Berita Harian, Director General of Health, Tan Sri Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah, said that the nurse had died due to her own illness.
“The nurse died of a heart attack five days after the vaccination, nothing to do with the vaccine that was given,” he shared.
The 45-year-old nurse, who works on Penang Island and remains in Sungai Petani, had received her first dose of the vaccine on March 12.
Meanwhile, Kuala Muda District Deputy Chief of Police Adzli Abu Shah said the results of the forensic autopsy report also confirmed that the 45-year-old nurse had died of a heart attack.
He had been working in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) at Penang Hospital for almost 20 years.
Since the implementation of the National Covid-19 Immunization Program on February 24, more than 367,213 front-line people have received their first dose of the vaccine.
The program will be implemented in three phases, starting with the front-line, then with the high-risk community, and finally with those over 18 years of age.
This is to ensure that between 70% and 80% of the general public receive their vaccinations by February 2022, to build herd immunity and curb the Covid-19 virus.
