Hartalega issues precautions against scammers

KUALA LUMPUR: Hartalega Holdings Bhd has warned the public to be aware of scammers claiming to have stocks and allocations of latex and nitrile gloves from their own brand, GloveOn.

The glove maker issued a statement on Monday about rampant cases of fraudulent operators selling gloves who have relentlessly approached potential buyers with false claims.

Its CEO, Kuan Mun Leong, said he was very concerned that these glove scammers would capitalize on the surge in demand for gloves due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

“Their claims revolve around having ready stocks and the allocation of latex and nitrile gloves from Hartalega’s own brand, GloveOn.

“Their fraudulent schemes include claiming that they are stock allocators for Hartalega, requesting that payment be deposited into escrow or third-party accounts, and using social media to solicit business, among others,” Kuan said.

He advised buyers to stay tuned as all orders go directly through Hartalega and only emails sent from his domain @ hartalega.com.my are genuine.

Kuan said Hartalega has never applied for any business on social media, nor does it request payments through social media.

“We produce to order and given the global shortage of gloves today, there is no excess stock or capacity. Additionally, GloveOn products purchased in Malaysia are for Malaysian consumption only and not for export.

“We deal directly with our officially designated distributors listed on our website at https://gloveonglobal.com/mys/distributors/ and we do not designate intermediaries or resellers for re-export.

“We do not collaborate with any other factory within Malaysia or any factory outside Malaysia to produce or package our gloves, nor do we appoint third parties to represent Hartalega for the export of our GloveOn brand.”

Kuan said that Hartalega had filed several police reports against these scammers in recent months.
