KUALA LUMPUR: Hartalega Holdings Bhd has confirmed that 35 of its employees have tested positive for COVID-19, 20 of them are at Bestari Jaya operations and 15 at the Next Generation Integrated Glove Manufacturing Complex (NGC) in Sepang.
In a statement today, it said affected employees were currently under medical care at a government healthcare facility, while all primary contacts for the past 14 days have been identified and quarantined and will undergo further testing sooner. being allowed to return to work.
“As a result, some production lines have been temporarily shut down, with an estimated capacity loss of less than 0.5 percent of annual production,” he said.
In addition, Hartalega said that an external professional provider had also carried out a complete disinfection of all areas where affected people were present.
The group said COVID-19 tests were carried out on a total of 8,772 employees, including outsourced providers such as security personnel and canteen operators, on Dec. 7 and completed on Dec. 10, according to the National Security Council directive for all foreign workers to be tested.
Chief Executive Officer Kuan Mun Leong said the strict measures have allowed the group to post a significantly low positive rate of just 0.4 percent of all its employees.
“While it is a shame that we have positive cases among our employees, we are encouraged that the good living conditions and high standards of accommodation for our workers, which exceed the required standards, have allowed us to contain the number of cases,” he said.
He added that the group will continue to review and improve its COVID-19 prevention measures and is considering implementing a periodic test of rapid antigen test kits for all employees in the future. – Bernama
