Pandan MP Dr. Wan Azizah Wan Ismail suggests that the prime minister, ministers and vice ministers accept a 10% pay cut until the end of next year.

KUALA LUMPUR: Parliamentarians holding positions in government-linked companies (GLC) should see their salaries cut in half with the balance funneled into the nation’s Covid-19 fund, Dr. Wan Azizah Wan Ismail (PH-Pandan ).

The former deputy prime minister said they should set an example by doing so, and also suggested that the prime minister, ministers and vice ministers agree to a 10% pay cut until the end of next year.

“I propose that the bonuses and the fees of the president of any deputy who presides over GLC and GLIC (investment companies linked to the government) be reduced by 50% and the money is channeled to the Covid-19 fund.

“These MPs are already receiving salaries,” he said during the debate on the 2021 budget proposals at the Dewan Rakyat.

Wan Azizah also proposed that all deputies receive the same allocation of funds.

The Perikatan Nasional government had launched the Covid-19 fund in March to help those directly affected by the pandemic.
