Police Inspector General Hamid Bador texted Lim Guan Eng about the postponement with an apology for the confusion.

PETALING JAYA: DAP Secretary General Lim Guan Eng’s questioning of two press releases he made in 2019, scheduled for tomorrow, has been postponed to a later date next year.

In a statement, Lim said the police had contacted his lawyer and Puchong deputy Gobind Singh Deo to postpone the questioning.

He said that the police had previously summoned him to the Timur Laut District Police Headquarters in Penang at 10 am on December 24 to record a statement.

Lim also claimed that Police Inspector General Abdul Hamid Bador had apologized to him in a text message “for the carelessness of his officer” in wanting to question Lim on Christmas Eve.

“I appreciate your Christmas greetings to me and my family,” he said.

Yesterday, Lim revealed that the police were investigating him for two press releases he made while he was still Minister of Finance.

Lim claimed that the decision to question him was the “latest act of political persecution by Perikatan Nasional”, in which the current government had “armed” law enforcement agencies against the opposition.

Former Prime Minister Najib Razak later criticized the police for their decision to set the date on Christmas Eve, saying it would only allow the opposition to instigate the people.

Instead, he suggested that Lim be called in the first week of next year.
