PETALING JAYA: DAP Secretary General Lim Guan Eng said today that the police are investigating him for two press releases he made in 2019, when he was still Minister of Finance.

In a statement, Lim said that the police had contacted his lawyer and Puchong deputy Gobind Singh Deo to record a statement.

“I will probably see the police on Thursday, a Christmas ‘gift’ from the PN government,” he joked.

The former Penang prime minister claimed it was the “latest act of political persecution by Perikatan Nasional”, in which the current government had “armed” law enforcement agencies against the opposition.

Next June, a court is scheduled to hear various charges against Lim related to the Penang submarine tunnel project stemming from his time as prime minister of the state.

The project to unite George Town on the island and Butterworth on the mainland was conceived when Lim was the prime minister of Penang. The project, however, has been stalled by corruption investigations against Lim.
