PETALING JAYA: Former Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng (Photo) says he was temporarily barred from entering Sabah when he flew to Kota Kinabalu on Tuesday night (September 1).

Lim, who faces three counts of corruption and abuse of power over Penang’s controversial underwater tunnel project, said he was approached by state immigration officials when he landed at Kota Kinabalu Airport.

“After waiting 20 minutes, I asked what the problem was.

“They claimed that the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) had imposed a travel restriction on me not to enter Sabah.

“What is this? Is it not under the power of the Sabah state government?” he said in a Facebook post on Wednesday (September 2).

Lim, who is the deputy from Bagan, asked why he was banned from entering the state.

“Is this another case of double standards when it is the responsibility of the State and not of the Federal Government? Is this another attempt by the federal (government) to interfere with the state? “He added.

He said that after waiting half an hour, he was later allowed to enter Sabah.

“Okay. I’ll ask Chief Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal. Was he the one who didn’t want me to go to Sabah?” he said.

When he was indicted in court in August, Lim pleaded not guilty to using his position as Penang’s chief minister to solicit a RM3.3 thousand bribe related to the RM6.3bil Penang underwater tunnel project.
