PETALING JAYA: A 33-year-old woman accused a Grab driver of harassment, saying he asked her an indecent question about her breasts and then drove dangerously on dark-lit roads on a trip from Segambut to Cheras.
Later, a Grab spokesperson told FMT that the company was aware of the incident and regretted that it had taken place. Grab said it has a zero-tolerance policy toward such harassment and that offending drivers could be removed or suspended after a review.
Grab’s passenger, Sheryll Fatihah, posted today an account of her ordeal during the 26-minute journey on Saturday.
She said the driver first asked her if her breasts “were real or implanted.”
At this point, he told the driver to stop talking. He complied. “He stopped talking but looked at me in the rear view mirror. He sped up every hit to make things bounce, ”he told FMT. “I think he was under the influence of something.”
Sheryll said the driver also hit a divider after she showed him the intended destination over the phone. He claimed the driver was driving on dimly lit roads and was staring through the rear view mirror at all times.
Fortunately, he reached his destination in one piece. “What if I had fallen asleep, or say, if the passenger was a woman who passed out in the back seat?” she said.
“What happened made me feel violated,” Sheryll said. “The driver must be prohibited from driving and avoid any line of work where there are women.”
A Grab spokesperson said users undergoing a similar experience should use the “Get emergency help” button on the app so that immediate assistance can be provided.
