PETALING JAYA: Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin is seeking an audience with the King today, according to sources.

It is believed to be the use of emergency special powers due to the increase in Covid-19 cases in Malaysia.

A source indicated that Muhyiddin had rushed to the east coast to attend the hearing, following the Special Emergency Meeting held today with cabinet ministers.

This comes after speculation that the Perikatan Nasional government may seek an emergency declaration as Covid-19 cases hover around 700-800 a day.

The FMT has been made aware that the King is in Pahang, and the meeting is scheduled for today at 5pm.

However, a minister told the FMT that not everyone agreed with declaring an emergency due to the implications for the economy and how it would be perceived by the people.

The minister said he believes there are concerns about the possibility that the budget will not be approved.

If the budget is not approved, it would indicate that the deputies have lost confidence in the prime minister and the government.

Several MPs have also tabled motions seeking a vote of no confidence against Muhyiddin.

If an emergency is declared, the Dewan Rakyat would have to be suspended.

Today it was reported that Muhyiddin chaired a special Cabinet meeting in Putrajaya with all ministers present.

Article 150 of the Federal Constitution states that the Yang di-Pertuan Agong can declare a state of emergency if the security, economy or public order of the nation is threatened.
