KOTA BHARU: The government is still awaiting comments from the organizer of Miss / Mrs Plus World Malaysia 2020 on whether it plans to go ahead with the event, says Deputy Prime Minister (Religious Affairs) Department Minister Ahmad Marzuk Shaary. (pix)
He said that the government through Yayasan Dakwah Islamiah Malaysia (YADIM) had met with the organizer to persuade them to cancel the program scheduled for January 2.
“We are of the opinion that it is not appropriate to organize such a program … firstly, because it is a matter of (going against) Islamic law and, secondly, because the country is still facing the Covid pandemic. -19. So any gathering or group gathering should be avoided, ”he told reporters after officiating a circumcision program in Pengkalan Chepa here today.
YADIM had previously protested against the event that was taking place, saying that it could give people the wrong impression that the government had sanctioned it.
In another development, Ahmad Marzuk said that the Malaysian Islamic Development Department (JAKIM) had arranged a meeting with 80 famous preachers on Thursday to obtain information about their preaching medium.
He said the meeting was also held to express the aspirations of the government and seek opinions from preachers regarding preaching programs on television and social media. -Called
