SABAH SURVEYS | BN and Umno chairman Ahmad Zahid Hamidi clings to the hope that Sabah’s next chief minister will be from BN.

Speaking during a BN Facebook Live session on the eve of Sabah’s election day, he urged voters to give BN candidates, many of them new faces, a chance to prove themselves.

He ensured that winning candidates would be assigned a key performance index (KPI) to ensure they serve the people.

“Although I did not participate in the election of the candidates, I will supervise the new prime minister who, God willing, will be chosen from among the victorious assemblymen representing the BN.

“And for sure, I will give my best service in terms of advice to the new prime minister. I will offer my best advice in the interests of the people of Sabahan, ”he said.

BN is contesting 41 seats in the Sabah elections.

Members of the state opposition alliance Umno and Bersatu were previously involved in a public dispute over the coveted post of prime minister.

On the day of the nomination, almost two weeks ago, Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin had nominated the party’s Sabah head, Hajiji Mohd Nor, for the position, but Zahid disagreed, saying that the decision would be made by the BN assemblymen and his political allies after the elections.

No mention of Anwar Move

Zahid, however, did not mention any BN or Umno MPs supporting PKR President Anwar Ibrahim’s plan to form a new government during today’s Facebook session.

His assistant later confirmed with Malaysiakini that the dialogue session was prerecorded but broadcast this afternoon.

According to Bersatu general secretary Hamzah Zainudin, Zahid is currently under self quarantine as a precaution against Covid-19 infection.

He has canceled all of his campaign events in Sabah for the day.

After Anwar claimed on Wednesday that he had secured the support of several government MPs to obtain a “solid” majority in Dewan Rakyat, Zahid revealed that “many” MPs from BN and Umno backed the opposition leader.

However, Zahid did not reveal the identities or the number of MPs involved.

It remains to be seen if Anwar really has the numbers and if the Yang di-Pertuan Agong will grant him a hearing to present his case for a new government.
