KUALA LUMPUR (September 15): The supply of rubber gloves will not be able to keep up with demand for the next three years, said Hartalega Holdings Bhd CEO Kuan Kam Hon.
Speaking to reporters at a press conference after the group’s annual general meeting today, Kuan said that there is currently a huge shortage of gloves due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
“Right now, there is a huge shortage, so we are always short of gloves. So the system is compromised because there are not enough gloves. So we don’t even know if we’ll have 120 billion more gloves in the next three years, do you think that’s enough? I don’t think it’s enough.
“Glove dipping is a long process, the transition period of expansion [for gloves] It is at least three years, we are constantly expanding, and what is our glove (production) per year? Maybe 20%, a little more than organic growth, ”he said.
Kuan added: “For us, (this) is a great challenge because it is in relation to our capacity, in relation to what we produce, 20% is much more.”
