Glove factory said to close

PETALING JAYA: A glove manufacturing company in Kajang, Selangor, was ordered to close for seven days for failure to comply with Covid-19 preventive measures.

Under the closure order, the factory was ordered to close between December 24 and December 30 as a measure to help curb the spread of Covid-19 infections.

In a joint operation by the authorities, involving the Minister of Human Resources, Datuk Seri M. Saravanan, at the factory, it was discovered that the owner had violated several laws after his workers were placed in two blocks of containers of Shipping.

The laws include the Law of Minimum Standards of Housing and Services for Workers (Law 446).

The operation was carried out by the Peninsular Malaysia Department of Labor (JTKSM), the Ministry of Health, and the Hulu Langat Covid-19 compliance task force.

Later, the Ministry of Human Resources issued a statement saying that the factory hired 781 employees, consisting of 759 foreign and 22 local workers.

“Aside from law enforcement, the operation also investigated whether the factory owner had complied with the standard operating procedure to prevent Covid-19, under the Infectious Diseases Prevention and Control Act of 1988, which is within the the competence of the Ministry of Health. , ” He said.

Saravanan said the joint raid was a proactive effort by the government to enforce the respective laws.

Meanwhile, Astro Awani reported that Saravanan expressed shock and sadness over the incident.

“I can’t believe such places exist in Malaysia and I’m not sure how they could have lived in such terrible and dirty conditions.

“I call this ‘modern slavery’ and employers must ensure the protection of the well-being of their workers.

“The local government should have already identified such places. If JTKSM hadn’t come today, we might not have heard from this place.

“I am very saddened to see such conditions,” Saravanan reportedly said after the raid.
