GEORGE TOWN (Bernama): Parti Gerakan Rakyat Malaysia (Gerakan) filed a report with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) yesterday (Nov 26) to investigate the Penang government’s allocation to the Cultural Museum of Asia Comics to pay the fee for museum rental. .

Penang Gerakan Vice President H’ng Khong Leng said on Friday (November 27) that it was announced at the October 12 state assembly that the state government had allocated RM413,940 for the museum rental fee for 2020.

“If this is true, then the state has given around RM2,000 to the museum to pay its rental fee since the museum was created in March 2016.

“We find it suspicious that a private entity can receive so much funding while other tourism organizations in Penang do not receive as much financial aid,” he told a press conference here on Friday.

H’ng also claimed that the museum was not registered with the Malaysian Business Commission (CCM) as it could not be found in the CCM database.

He added that he believed the museum had received so much financial support from the state, as museum curator Hew Kuan Yau (also known as ‘Superman Hew’) was a strong supporter of the Democratic Action Party (DAP).

“We urge Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow to clarify this with appropriate documentation to clear any suspicions from the public,” he said. – Bernama
