Gary Neville compares Edinson Cavani to Radamel Falcao and Odion Ighalo

Gary Neville is hopeful that Edinson Cavani can be a successful signing for Manchester United, but has once again criticized the club’s transfer policy.

The Uruguayan forward is set to sign a lucrative two-year deal with United after agreeing to a £ 200,000-a-week contract at Old Trafford.

Neville has compared the impending signing to that of three other seasoned forwards United have signed in the past, admitting he is excited to see Cavani in action.

“They need a forward,” Neville told Sky Sports. “I think my emotion yesterday when I listened was the feeling that I probably had when Radamel Falcao, Zlatan Ibrahimovic or Odion Ighalo signed.

Gary Neville hopes Edinson Cavani can start working at Manchester United

“It’s very last minute, it came out of nowhere. There’s an element of excitement, intrigue, excitement, because he’s one of the best forwards in the world in the last 10 years and you hope he can set the Premier League on fire.”

While Neville is happy his former team has finally signed another striker, he also believes it was clear that Cavani was never the first choice, and has questioned why United left him until the last minute to buy one.

“There is also an element of how we ended up here,” he added. “Man Utd two or three months ago had a great period of coronavirus, performed with great class, finished third in the league. That’s as close as they could to City.

“And if they go and get three or four transfers this season, but we are here on the eve of the transfer deadline with Donny van de Beek as the only signing and currently he cannot get into a full midfield.

Neville is still not impressed with United’s transfer deals

“Then the signing of Cavani will be welcome, I think he is different from the other forwards, I hope he is fit, shooting, he has always worked hard, so I have no doubts about it.

“He’s not the type of person who comes to sing a swan or pay. I think he has more of him. I don’t think he comes up with anything other than to prove himself, but I certainly don’t think it was part of the strategy or plan. “.
