Gareth Bale says he wants to use his experience to help Tottenham win trophies after returning to the club from Real Madrid.
The 31-year-old rejoins Spurs on a one-season deal seven years after he moved in the opposite direction on a then-world-record transfer..
Bale arrives at the Spurs in a double deal with left back Sergio Reguilón. The Spaniard has signed a permanent contract, while Bale’s play is a loan.
In Madrid, Bale won four Champions, two LaLiga and a Copa del Rey among others. And now he hopes to bring success to the club where he first established himself as a world-class talent.
“I think going to Madrid, winning trophies and going far with the national team I feel like I have that kind of winning mentality, how to win trophies,” said Bale, Euro 2016 semi-finalist with Wales.
“You don’t realize until you’re there and in those situations, in the final, you know how to deal with the situation, the nerves, the pressure. And I think everything goes with experience.
“Hopefully I can bring that into the locker room, make everyone believe a little more that we can win a trophy. And the goal is to do that this season, to fight on all possible fronts. I want to bring that mentality here, back to Tottenham.
“It is an exciting time for everyone here, the club continues to progress every year. And I want to contribute to that again and try to take us to the next level, which is to win a trophy.
“Winning trophies is something very important for this club. As players, we want to win trophies in our careers. And doing it now in Tottenham would be a dream come true. “
The Spurs’ last prize was the 2008 League Cup, with two more finals in that competition since then. They have also reached four FA Cup semi-finals and a runner-up in the 2016/17 Premier League.
The club confirmed Bale wouldn’t be in shape until after the international break in October. That’s because he suffered a knee injury while on international duty earlier this month.
‘Amazing to be back’
Bullet He said in an interview posted on Tottenham’s Twitter: “It’s good to be back. It is such a special club for me. It’s where I made my name and it’s an amazing club, amazing fans.
He added: “It’s just amazing to be back and I hope that now I can be fit for the game and get going and really help the team, and hopefully win trophies.
“I always thought when I was leaving that one day I would love to come back. Now the opportunity has arisen and I feel like it is a good fit.
“I feel like it’s a good time for me. I’m hungry, I’m motivated, I want to do well for the team and I can’t wait to start ”.
