PETALING JAYA: A college student was arrested after causing a riot in a housing area and attacking police officers on SS2 here.

Petaling Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Nik Ezanee Mohd Faisal said police received a tip about a burglary attempt and sent a car to search the area near Jalan SS2 / 18.

“When they arrived at the scene, they found a man shaking and hitting the back doors of each house with a metal plate,” he said in a statement.

The incident occurred around 5.11am on Tuesday (September 29).

Police personnel tried to arrest the suspect but acted aggressively and tried to hit them with the metal plate he was holding, added ACP Nik Ezanee.

“A fight broke out, and our staff were forced to use minimal force to arrest the man.

“One of the policemen suffered minor injuries during the fight,” he said, adding that a urine test on the 24-year-old suspect came back positive for ganja.

He said that when the suspect was taken to the police station, he became aggressive again and began screaming and kicking one of the main doors of the station, causing damage to the frame.

“The controls revealed that the suspect is a university student and has been placed in preventive detention for four days.

“We are investigating the case for the use of criminal force on a public servant, in addition to committing mischief and causing damage and disorder in a police station,” he said.
