What is the COVID-19 situation in Fulham?

As reported by Athletic, Fulham’s game against Tottenham on December 30 was postponed after several cases of COVID-19 at the club.

Athletic understands that more positive cases were identified, which means that Burnley’s game has now also been postponed.

The club is also investigating an incident involving Aleksandar Mitrovic after the forward appeared to be filmed with Crystal Palace’s Luka Milivojevic on December 31.

Fulham head coach Scott Parker previously missed the club’s Boxing Day match against Southampton after a member of his family tested positive.

What has been said?

After the postponement was broken by Athletic On Saturday morning, the Premier League issued a statement confirming the news.

He said: “Following Fulham’s request to reorganize the Burnley match, the Premier League Board has taken into consideration more independent medical advice and decided to postpone the match due to the exceptional circumstances of the ongoing outbreak at the club.

“With the health of the players and staff as a priority, the League and Fulham will agree on an additional plan of action to control the outbreak and allow the club to safely resume its season. Players and staff will now be re-evaluated as part of a revised testing program. “

What’s the latest on COVID-19 and the Premier League?

On Thursday, the Premier League issued a statement affirming its commitment to continue the season after postponing Fulham’s game against Tottenham.

“The Premier League has not discussed pausing the season and has no plans to do so,” the statement said.

“The League continues to rely on its COVID-19 protocols to allow games to be played as scheduled, and these protocols continue to have the full backing of the Government.”

On Tuesday, the Premier League made the decision to have its clubs retested for COVID-19 twice a week due to the increase in the number of positive tests.

The latest round of testing between Dec. 21-27 resulted in 18 positive COVID-19 tests among players and staff, with a total of 1,479 people tested, the highest number since weekly testing began. The 18 people who tested positive are self-isolating according to government guidelines.

How many Premier League matches have already been postponed?

This is the fourth game to be postponed this season, after Fulham’s game against Tottenham became the third last week.

Two other games have been postponed this season due to COVID-19 outbreaks in Newcastle United, which were to play Aston Villa, and Manchester City, which were to play Everton, respectively.

Manchester City reported four positive COVID-19 tests among players and staff on December 25 and a further three on December 29, forcing them to postpone their match against Everton at Goodison Park. Pep Guardiola confirmed that he would be without “five” players for his team’s game against Chelsea on Sunday.
