Manchester United midfielder Fred is confident that the arrival of Bruno Fernandes can help him unlock his full potential and score more goals.

After an uncertain start to his career at Old Trafford, the Brazilian has become a key player for United, but despite winning just his fifth game for the club, a 1-1 draw with Wolves in September 2018, he only scored three goals in his 64 appearances.

The last two came through parenthesis in 5-0 win over Club Brugge in the Europa League in late February as he showed his added threat in the future by providing two assists in United’s 5-0 away win in LASK Linsk on March 12, the Red Devils’ last game before football was blocked due to Coronavirus pandemic.

However, Fred does not put his extra potency at random; he believes it is due in part to the extra dimension that brought United since the arrival of Fernandes in the January transfer window.

Asked in an interview about manutd.com If he sought to score more often, the 27-year-old replied, “I hope so, since it is always important to score goals.” I have been working on it and, with the arrival of Bruno, we have someone who gives us more freedom, given his quality with the ball at his feet.

“So I hope to attack and score more goals and work hard on my completion to score more goals in one season. I am sure that with the arrival of Bruno, more goals will come. “

Fred believes his current position on the team under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer it is conducive to achieving that goal.

“My favorite role is the one I’ve been playing. As a second central midfielder, defending solidly but also moving forward and looking to score goals,” he said.

“I think it is important for a central midfielder to have a good focus on the game and finishing skills.” The way I’ve been playing is the way I like to play and I feel really good in this position. “

Speaking about his goals thus far, Fred says he has been provided with some of his best memories since moving to the Premier League from Shakhtar Donetsk in a £ 52 million move in the summer of 2018.

“There was a match against Bruges this season, where I scored twice,” he said. “Until then, he had been playing well but had not been scoring.” I think scoring in that game was the biggest accomplishment of all the hard work I’ve been doing this season.

“However, the most special moment of all for me was my first goal for United against Wolverhampton. My wife was pregnant, we had not had [our son] Benjamin still, and I could dedicate the goal, I scored and celebrated like this [sucking his thumb].

“So I think that’s the most special moment in my career at United. There was so much excitement with the fans cheering for the goal, that I was celebrating together with my teammates. So, of all the moments I’ve had at United, that was the best. “
