BATU PAHAT: Four suspected armed robbers were killed in a morning shootout with the police in Jalan Pagoh – Parit Sulong here.

Johor Police Chief Comm Datuk Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay said the incident took place around 3.15am on Friday (February 12) when police detained the suspects in two vehicles that were acting suspiciously.

“The suspects acted aggressively when approached by the police. They fired a few shots at the police before trying to escape.

“A fight broke out when the police tried to arrest the suspects. The suspects used a parang and a dagger to attack the authorities, wounding a police officer.

“In an act of self-defense and to stop the attack, the police then responded to the suspects,” he said at a press conference live on Facebook here.

He said one of the policemen suffered minor arm injuries after being stabbed by one of the suspects.

He said the suspects, who were not carrying any personal identification documents, were believed to be foreigners, between 23 and 40 years old.

“We are still investigating the identity of the suspects believed to be involved in robberies and raids around Johor,” he said, adding that an autopsy would be performed on the suspects.

He said police also seized a revolver with six bullet casings, four bullets, two parang, a dagger, two cars, including one that has been reported missing in Seri Alam, as well as various tools believed to have been used to break into buildings.

The case is being investigated under Section 307/186 of the Penal Code for attempted homicide and for preventing public officials from carrying out their duties.

Comm Ayob also said that some 13 cases related to raids of offices and factories in Batu Pahat were reported in 2019 with losses amounting to 230,000 ringgit, while last year 17 similar cases were reported in the district, with losses amounting to 120,000 ringgit.
