PUTRAJAYA: A former English teacher was sent to jail for 12 months after losing his appeal to overturn his conviction for outraging his student’s modesty in a classroom six years ago.

Abdul Majid Ahmad, 56, who was on bail of RM15,000 with bail pending his appeal, was ordered to begin his prison sentence today.

Judge Datuk Yaacob Md Sam, who was chairing a three-man panel of the Court of Appeal, in a unanimous decision, dismissed Abdul Majid’s appeal and ruled that his (Abdul Majid’s) conviction for the crime was safe to uphold.

He said that after examining the submissions by Abdul Majid’s lawyer, Mohd Hissham Ramzan, and Deputy Prosecutor Wong Poi Yoke, as well as the appeal records, the court found that Abdul Majid’s appeal was without merit.

The other two judges were Datuk P. Ravinthran and Datuk Wira Ahmad Nasfy Yasin.

Abdul Majid was found guilty by the Magistrates Court on March 9, 2018 for outraging the modesty of the then 12-year-old student in a classroom of a primary school in Bera, Pahang at 9 am on April 12, 2014.

The High Court dismissed Abdul Majid’s appeal on March 14 last year.

According to the facts of the case, Abdul Majid had touched the victim’s thigh and then caressed her private parts and breasts in the classroom during an extra English class.

Mohd Hissham claimed there was no corroboration of the victim’s evidence and the testimony of another student.

Wong Poi Yoke argued that the evidence from an eyewitness was sufficient to show that Abdul Majid had intentionally committed the crime.Named
