Former Sabah PKR Vice President Kenny Chua is seeking re-election in Inanam.

KOTA KINABALU: Former PKR Vice President Kenny Chua claimed today that Perikatan Nasional had given his consent for him to defend his seat in Inanam as an independent.

Chua said the decision was made after PBS reneged on its promise not to present any candidates challenged by its allies.

“The PN leaders from PPBM and STAR gave me the green light to be in Inanam,” he told reporters.

Chua was fired by the PKR in July for supporting the failed move by former Sabah Chief Minister Musa Aman to form a new government. Subsequently, the state assembly was dissolved, which led to the calling of new elections.

“I have the right to face the rakyat, regardless of whether they want to vote for me again or not,” he said, referring to the September 26 elections.

Chua went on to say that PBS should not have contested seats where STAR ran candidates.

In addition to Inanam, PBS is also competing in Tambunan, where STAR President Jeffrey Kitingan is the candidate, as well as Moyog, Kepayan, Tanjung Aru, and Paginatan.

“I think what happened was that a lot of people (from PBS) wanted to be candidates, so they allowed it. So of course people are angry. “

In the 2018 general election, Chua was elected on a PKR ticket, winning the seat with a majority of 7,783 after garnering 13,633 votes.
