SHAH ALAM: A former political secretary to former Defense Minister Mohamad Sabu, better known as Mat Sabu, was again indicted in the Court of Sessions here today on two counts of taking bribes totaling RM130,000 from a contractor company last year.

Mohd Azhar Che Mat Dali, 49, pleaded not guilty after both charges were read to him before Judge Rofiah Mohamed.

In the first count, Azhar was accused of accepting RM50,000 from Aqsa Solution Sdn Bhd managing director, Elias Jemadi Tajudin, as a bonus for helping FEHM Entity Sdn Bhd to be selected as a strategic partner and maintenance contractor for the intelligence system. of the ministry.

It is alleged that he committed the crime in his official car in Lorong VIP, KLIA, Sepang, in August last year.

In the second count, Azhar was accused of accepting RM80,000 from Elias Jemadi, who is also the managing director of FEHM Entity Sdn Bhd, through the director of Ikaira Resources, Zainudin Abdul Majid, for the same purpose.

The crime was allegedly committed at the Kota Damansara driving range, Petaling Jaya, late last year.

Both charges fell under Section 16 (a) (B) of the Malaysia Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Act 2009, which carries a maximum prison sentence of 20 years and a fine of not less than five times the amount of the bribe or 10 RM. , 000, whichever is greater, if convicted.

Previously, MACC Deputy Prosecutor Mahadi Abdul Jumaat offered RM30,000 bail with a guarantee with an additional condition: to appear at Putrajaya MACC office the first week of each month starting in November.

However, Azhar’s lawyer, Ariff Azami Hussein, requested a lower bond claiming that his client was no longer working and had to support his wife and seven children, including two who were still in school, as well as his mother-in-law.

The court granted bail of RM15,000 for both charges and ordered the defendant to report to Putrajaya MACC’s office the first week of each month.

The court set November 27 for handling cases.

On October 15, Azhar was indicted in the Kuala Lumpur Session Court on five counts of soliciting and accepting bribes totaling RM6.35 million.
