PUTRAJAYA: A former high-ranking military officer, with a Datuk title, has been in pretrial detention for three days from today to facilitate investigations into alleged false allegations related to the implementation of road improvement projects in Sarawak .
A director of a supplier company was also in preventive detention.
According to sources from the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), the allegations involved the construction and improvement of 10 state highways linking various areas of Sarawak.
These were implemented under the Ministry of Defense’s Jiwa Murni program and were worth RM800 million.
The projects were awarded to the company from 2010 to 2016 and the areas involved were Miri, Kapit, Ba’kelalan, Limbang and Belaga.
The pre-trial detention order was issued by the Deputy Clerk of the Putrajaya Court of First Instance, Siti Roslizawati Mohd Zanin.
The two men, aged 62 and 56, were arrested after appearing yesterday to give their statements at the MACC headquarters here.
Prior to this, two company directors, also with Datuk titles, were arrested in connection with the same case.
