Form Six student arrested for murder of 19-year-old in Terengganu

KUALA BERANG (Bernama): A Form Six student was arrested in connection with the murder of a 19-year-old woman in Kampung Lubuk Batu, Telemong on Sunday (November 1).

Hulu Terengganu District Police Chief DSP Mohd Adli Mat Daud said the suspect was a schoolmate of the victim up to Form Five, adding that she was detained at the Telemong Police Station at 8.15am on Monday. (November 2) when she appeared for questioning along with her mother.

He said a video recording of the suspect near the victim’s home had gone viral since last night after Siti Nur Surya Ismail’s body was found at his home by her 15-year-old sister at 2.30 p.m. Siti Nur Surya suffered cut wounds and his left hand was cut off.

He told a press conference here that the suspect gave dubious answers during questioning and that she also had injuries such as bite marks on her hands that are believed to have sustained during a fight.

“The belongings reported as missing from the victim’s home were recovered from the suspect’s home during follow-up investigations,” he said.

DSP Mohd Adli said the suspect visited Siti Nur Surya at 9 a.m. yesterday and that a fight is believed to have occurred due to a misunderstanding.

He also said that police are still searching for a vegetable knife believed to have been used in the incident.

“The suspect’s house is only two kilometers from the victim,” he said.

Valuables recovered from the suspect’s home include a phone, cash and beauty kits that belong to the victim, he said.

The suspect will be taken to the Marang Magistrates Court on Tuesday (November 3) for a request for pretrial detention.

Siti Nur Surya’s brother, Mohd Zarif Amir, 29, said his mother Zaini Musa, 55, who suffers from brain cancer, has not yet been informed of his death. – Bernama
