PETALING JAYA: Pakatan Harapan should “move forward” from any plans to work with Dr. Mahathir Mohamad after the former prime minister’s latest attack on Anwar Ibrahim, says PKR Youth.

Wing chief Akmal Nasir said PH must realize that Mahathir was simply based on the “grand coalition” idea of divide and conquer, a strategy he has employed many times in the past.

“It will make no sense to allow this outdated strategy to break the unity and alliance of PKR and its partners in Pakatan Harapan,” he said in a statement.

Mahathir had criticized PKR Chairman Anwar yesterday, calling him untrustworthy for broken promises, in particular his claim to have a strong and formidable majority to topple the Perikatan Nasional government.

Mahathir said this when asked to respond to Anwar’s statement that PH could collaborate with any party, even Mahathir to form a “great, great coalition” as long as they were aligned with the group’s principles.

Recently, Anwar said that parties that want to be part of the great opposition coalition should not bring their personal agendas with them.

Akmal said Mahathir should be aware that he had come and gone with the promises he had made in the run-up to the last general election.

Mahathir had promised to hand over the reins to Anwar after being appointed prime minister a second time, but hesitated and kept asking for more time before resigning and overthrowing the PH government in February last year.

“Tun Dr Mahathir’s attitude gives the impression that Pejuang was formed only to disparage Anwar as leader of the opposition and president of PH.”
