PETALING JAYA: Six foreign security guards were rescued by the Immigration Department after investigations showed they had been exploited as forced labor.

The six men, aged between 30 and 40, were rescued after an operation here on October 27.

“Based on the information gathered and the surveillance, an inspection was carried out at a worker’s shelter.

“Six Nepalese men were found inside, with the shelter in a decrepit and uncomfortable state,” Director General of Immigration Datuk Khairul Dzaimee Daud said in a statement on Friday (October 30).

He said interviews with the victims showed they had not been paid or given work for about six months.

They claimed that their employer had not provided any help for their daily life either.

The victims also claimed that their employer had refused to meet with them despite numerous requests to do so.

All victims tested negative for Covid-19.

“They have been given protection and placed in a safe house. The employer and the business owner have been called in to give their statement.

“The case is being investigated under article 12 of the Human Trafficking and Smuggling of Migrants Act 2007 for human trafficking,” Khairul said.
