PETALING JAYA: The Super League title stays in Johor.
Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) remains the king of Malaysian soccer after he sealed his seventh consecutive title in style by defeating Sabah 4-1 at the Sultan Ibrahim Stadium in Iskandar Puteri on Friday (October 2).
A double from Safawi Rasid (minutes 56 and 80) and a goal from Diogo Santo (38) and Leandro Velásquez (84) were enough to sink the Rhinos.
Dennis Buschening scored Sabah’s only goal in the 74th minute.
The title win is much sweeter, as Johor won it at the new stadium, which opened earlier this year.
The team owned by the Crown Prince of Johor, Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim, has been dominating the league since 2014, and this season, the team remains undefeated. With one game to play, he leads the table with 26 points. The team is nine points ahead of Perak, who is second in the standings.
Meanwhile, Petaling Jaya City has kept its hopes of staying in the Super League alive when it beat UiTM 4-2 at UiTM Stadium in Shah Alam.
The team is now eighth in the league with 11 points.
