PETALING JAYA : All it took was a small bump, caused by a road depression in Mutiara Damansara, and a Grabfood rider paid dearly with his life yesterday.

The 31-year-old victim, identified as Hew Yoong Le from Kampung Chempaka, was riding his motorcycle at Jalan PJU7 / 2, near the Curve shopping center, when the accident occurred around 1:15 p.m.

Petaling Jaya Police Chief, ACP Nik Ezanee Mohd Faisal, said the motorcyclist was approaching a stoplight when he hit the pothole before losing control of his motorcycle and crashing.

He said the victim was pronounced dead by paramedics at the scene and that his body was sent to the University Malaya Medical Center for an autopsy.

From the videos of the accident taken by bystanders and shared on social media, the victim appeared to have sustained serious head injuries.

In a video, an unidentified motorcyclist said it was not the first time a motorcyclist had crashed his motorcycle at the scene, but this was the first fatal accident.

He urged authorities to fix potholes, adding that motorcyclists are “not looking for clean roads but uniformly constructed roads.”

Pothole Hazards is a deadly hazard faced by motorcyclists on the roads, especially in the Klang Valley. Pothole-related accidents have been rife over the years, causing deaths, injuries, and damage to vehicles.

While the authorities in question seemed indifferent to such cases in the past, the tune changed recently when the Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, Khairy Jamaluddin, fell from his bicycle and suffered minor injuries while riding the Jalan Kampung Sri Cheeding in Banting. on dec. 27 last year.

Shortly after the incident, the Kuala Langat District Public Works Department (PWD) apologized to the minister and assured him that they would take steps to remedy the road defect.

There was a furor among netizens who were shocked and questioned PWD for its silence and for turning a blind eye to past accidents involving regular road users.

Khairy had proposed creating a website for road users to report potholes.
