TAWAU (Bernama): The food supply issue and needs raised by the residents of Taman Semarak following the implementation of the enhanced motion control order have been resolved.

Joseph Pang, a committee member of the Tawau Disaster Operations Control Center (PKOB), said the food baskets have been distributed since Friday and residents can shop at nearby stores.

“They are allowed to go to nearby shops and to this day we continue to distribute the food baskets,” he told Bernama.

Previously, the row of stores near Taman Semarak was not included in the improved restricted area of the MCO.

A government retiree living in the housing area, Dg. Sarbanun Abd Latif, 63, said he was grateful that the problems with the food baskets had been resolved as residents needed food and other necessities.

“Most of the people in Taman Semarak had run out of food by the fourth day of the enhanced MCO, so PKOB’s decision to allow residents to go to nearby stores was a relief,” he said.

For housewife Sarimah Trang, 57, the swift action taken to solve people’s problems showed the concern of local authorities and the state government for the people.

“The authorities gave us their cooperation and yesterday we received the help of the food basket,” he said.

Former bank official Ahmad Dullah, 52, said residents were unable to make advance preparations to store food and other necessities shortly after they were informed that the improved MCO would be implemented as many had not received their salary.

“As such, the help from the food basket was much needed. We are grateful that the help was a timely gift for us.” he said.

Last Thursday, the residents of Taman Semarak held a peaceful protest and asked the authorities to have some flexibility in implementing the improved MCO in the area from October 26 to November 8 – Bernama
