Follow health SOP when reopening businesses, says MCCC

PETALING JAYA: Commercial activities that are allowed to resume operations must strictly comply with standard operating procedures (SOPs) established by the Ministry of Health, says the Malaysia-China Chamber of Commerce (MCCC).

Its president, Datuk Tan Yew Sing, said that employers should also provide a supportive environment for employees and not protect their own interests.

Tan said that although the Covid-19 has shown signs of a flattening of the curve, the country should not let its guard down, with the self-discipline and high level of hygiene that is still needed.

While the MCCC “cautiously” welcomed the government’s decision to allow the conditional opening of almost all business sectors, it said that a third wave of Covid-19 would result in a backlash in the country’s national economy.

MCCC gave the example of Hokkaido, Japan, which had to resume its blockade after 26 days of lifting it.

In a statement on Friday (May 1), Tan also urged relevant companies or sectors to cooperate with the government’s conditional movement control order (MCO) by refraining from organizing mass gatherings or religious activities to help curb the spread from Covid-19.

He also hoped that law enforcement officials would take more considerate measures during the conditional opening period and not aggravate people who unintentionally violate the law.

He said the government should also allow limited visits to hospitals, nursing homes, nursing homes and orphanages.

He also said that the government should allow funerals to be conducted by no more than 25 people.
