Students who continue their studies, those who have just received study offers and those who are taking examinations can leave Malaysia without prior approval from the Immigration Department.

KUALA LUMPUR: The Immigration Department today released updated rules for Malaysians wishing to enter or leave the country pending the completion of the Recovery Movement Control Order (RMCO) on December 31.

Those who can leave Malaysia without the prior approval of the department are diplomats on duty and their dependents; students who continue their studies and those who have just received offers of studies; students taking tests; and long-term pass holders from other countries (permanent resident / resident pass / employment pass, etc.).

Malaysians who need the department’s green light to leave the country are those who arrived during the MCO period; I just received job offers; need to attend meetings / seminars / exhibitions or engage in business affairs; emergency travel; and parents who accompany their children to study abroad.

Those who go on vacations and social visits to relatives abroad cannot leave the country.

Malaysians who left the country during the MCO period can enter the country without seeking prior approval from the department.

“However, they are not allowed to leave the country again without obtaining permission from the department despite having a long-term pass abroad,” the department said in a statement.

Malaysians also allowed include those from countries whose other travelers face an entry ban even though these Malaysians had left during the MCO period. This extends to long-term pass holders from these countries.
